New Fashion Tech Area Debuts at the October Show — 17 Projects and Brands Hold a Pre-Show Presentation
 

Tokyo Fashion Technology Lab (TFL), which exhibits at the PLUG IN October show, recently held a presentation session for its prospective exhibitors, with eight reviewers judging the presentations and offering advice on future business development and exhibiting.

A total of 17 entries took part in this show, spanning three joint research teams and students including graduates. Of these, 15 individuals and teams presented their exhibit and proposal content and the outline of their business. Since TFL is a school for working adults, most presentations drew on the presenter's own profession and career background. They ranged from proposals for a new era — new digital-native brands and customization — to presentations tackling issues such as clothing waste, recycling, and sustainability.

Reviewers offered encouragement such as "an ambitious proposal" and "keep that spirit of challenge," alongside advice such as "don't get so caught up in digital and systems that you forget the perspective of the person who actually wears the clothes."

At PLUG IN, these brands and proposals will be arranged within an experiential space that makes use of video, VR, and more.

・A lingerie and customizable-accessory brand built around the concept of a "plan to turn women worldwide into fairies"
・An e-commerce platform for accessories made with 3D printers
・Research into sensibility classification using AI
・A fully made-to-order shoe brand using 3D technology
・A styling app for 3D avatars
・A fully made-to-order brand for doll clothing using 3D modeling
・A recycling brand made from discarded neckties
・A textile brand that redesigns traditional patterns digitally
・A mass-customization project designed for women who use wheelchairs
